Josh Miller — Cocoa Beach Bluesman
Long nights, slide guitar, and the deep tradition of the blues, rolled into something that still sounds new.
Josh Miller leads the Josh Miller Blues Revue out of Cocoa Beach, Florida — a rotating cast of seasoned musicians anchored by Josh on guitar and vocals. The Revue has been a fixture of Brevard County’s live music scene since the mid-2000s.
These days you can catch the band around the Space Coast at spots like The Alibi, The Beach Shack Bar, Dirty Birds Tiki Bar, and Balibar. For the most current dates, follow Josh on Facebook — that’s where shows go up first.
In 2007, the band recorded Live at The Cottage Pub — ten tracks captured during a single Cocoa Beach night, with Jonathan Buck on drums, James McKaba on piano, Miguel Hamoum on bass, Kevin Doublé on harmonica, Karl Davis trading vocals, and Josh on guitar and lead vocals. The Cottage Pub itself has since closed, but the album lives on as the truest representation of what a Revue night feels like in person.
Beyond Florida, Josh has toured France with the Revue’s lineup — tour posters still in heavy rotation in the press section. The band continues to play clubs, festivals, weddings, and private events across the Space Coast and beyond.
Anyone who’s spent even the briefest evening in Cocoa Beach is familiar with local Bluesman Josh Miller. They’ve been drawn into local venues by his inimitable sound and dynamic energy, and regardless of previous and conveniently forgotten plans, they manage to close out the night backed by the incredible soundtrack he and his band churn out.
Miller plays bonafide Blues. The thing that sets Miller apart is his devotion to the long lineage of Blues musicians who smoothed out the gravelly path he trods, and an evening’s performance can play out like an aural history of the Blues’ past, while offering a telescopic view into the genre’s far-off future. He’s one of the few who’s ‘got it’, and he doesn’t wield that power irresponsibly. Tobin Bennison — The Beachside Resident
